Calmer Waters (Anxiety)

Canoeing at sunrise over a calm, misty lake.

Anxiety is frequently characterized by a low tolerance for risk, wherein an individual anticipates negative outcomes despite evidence to the contrary. Those experiencing anxiety often focus on worst-case scenarios and underestimate their own resilience, which frequently leads to avoidance behaviors. However, research indicates that individuals navigating anxiety are often highly capable of responding effectively to challenges, yet find themselves temporarily paralyzed by fear.

Through targeted therapy, Sandbar Psychological Services provides clients with evidence-based strategies to manage these overwhelming emotions. By systematically decreasing avoidance, treatment empowers individuals to confidently embrace and utilize the strengths they already possess.

Treatment strategies include:

  • Better understanding of root causes of anxiety
  • Monitoring present anxiety and how it impacts thoughts and behaviors
  • Reviewing the physiological effects of anxiety
  • Identifying and challenging illogical and/or unhelpful thoughts
  • Discussing ways to reduce avoidance of anxiety triggers
  • Improving confidence in facing anxiety-provoking situations
  • Facing challenges with support
