Quicksand Crew (OCD)

A deep sand sinkhole with smooth, flowing edges in a desert.

While occasional negative thinking is a common experience, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) occurs when the mind becomes entrenched in persistent, intrusive thoughts. These obsessions cause significant distress and can severely disrupt daily functioning. In an attempt to alleviate this discomfort, individuals often engage in repetitive rituals or compulsions. However, rather than providing lasting relief, these behaviors inadvertently reinforce the original distressing thoughts, creating a self-perpetuating cycle that can feel much like being trapped in quicksand.

At Sandbar Psychological Services, specialized, evidence-based treatment is provided to help clients effectively interrupt this cycle. Therapy is designed to equip children, adolescents, and adults with the tools necessary to break free from the quicksand of OCD and regain control of their daily lives.

Treatment strategies include:

  • Identifying and tracking thoughts and behaviors of significant impact
  • Confronting the thoughts that are maintaining anxiety
  • Identifying and challenging illogical and unhelpful thoughts
  • Delaying or resisting engaging in the behavior that brings on temporary relief
  • Improving the ability to manage in uncomfortable situations
